JW Player 7 has been released, and our latest release now includes support for this new player. The JW developers have re-designed and re-engineered the entire player so it is packed full of exciting and powerful new features. In this blog, we'll  look at how you can switch your HWD plugins to use the new version, and benefit from the new features.

The JW Player is the most-used and fastest loading video player on the web. The new version is their fastest, lightest and smartest player yet. It boasts some impressive features such as MPEG-DASH support, a CSS skinning model for easy customisation and full IMA 3.0 support for HTML5.

For a complete overview of the new version and more details about these features see the JW Player website.

Update HWDMediaShare

In order to use the new JW Player version 7, you'll need to upgrade your existing HWDMediaShare software to our new release - HWDMediaShare 2.0.3.

Select JW Player 7 in Plugin Parameters

Visit your Joomla Plugin manager, and search for the HWDMediaShare plugin for JW Player. The plugin is called HWD - Player (JW Player). Edit the plugin and under the Player Hosting option you'll now see two additional options for version 7. Select if you want to use cloud hosted or self hosted editions.

Getting your Cloud Hosted License Key

To obtain your cloud hosted license key you'll need to visit your JW Player dashboard, and login. If you don't have an account yet, you can create one for free.

JW Player Dashboard

From your dashboard select the main Players menu, so see a full list of current players that have been configured.

If you have not created a player using version 7, you can create your new player now. You can setup your players with your preferred configuration and these will be saved. When you edit the player, you can obtain your license key from the Player Library URL. This key uniquely identifies your player, and should be entered in the plugin parameters.
