On Monday, the Joomla Extensions Directory (JED) was re-launched on the Joomla! 1.5 platform using a new GNU GPL licensed Joomla! 1.5 version of Mosets Tree. Along with this several important new policies were announced. These will be implemented over the next six months.

Starting on March 31 the JED will no longer accept new non GPL extensions and on July 1 all non GPL extensions will be removed. Also, on March 31 the JED will stop accepting new extensions for Joomla! 1.0 and on July 1 all 1.0 extensions will be unpublished.

This important change marks the start of the end for Joomla 1.0. In line with this new Joomla policy, Highwood Design will also start to shutdown its Joomla 1.0 development and concentrate on the version of hwdMediaShare for Joomla 1.5. The development on hwdMediaShare for Joomla 1.5 will continue as normal and should speed up over the coming months. However, the version of hwdMediaShare for Joomla 1.0 will only be modified to fix bugs, no new features will be added. We encourage any users still using Joomla 1.0 to start planning their migration to Joomla 1.5. In addition to this, the hwdPhotoShare component for Joomla 1.0 will be shutdown and removed from the hwdMediaShare package. It is senseless to invest hundreds of hours developing this package when it will be obsolete in 6 months. hwdPhotoShare will only be developed for Joomla 1.5 and subsequent releases of the Joomla CMS.

CUSTOMER SUPPORT ROLE - Students/Freelance/Graduates!

Customer Support Representative required for the support team at hwdMediaShare. This is an excellent opportunity for Computer Science students to earn money whilst also studying and gain experience working for a popular open source project. You will become a member of the hwdMediaShare support team. Ideally, you will have some experience of the Joomla CMS and of the hwdMediaShare package although this is not essential. Good PHP programming skills and experience with a LINUX based application environment is required.

You will be supporting customers on a wide range of technical and administrative issues through the Helpdesk system and our Forum boards. You must be eloquent and have excellent communication skills. Any previous experience in a Customer Service Role and application support environment highly advantageous. Sound problem solving and organisation skills are a must.
