I am aware that our expected release date has passed and I'm very sorry for all those who are waiting for this new version to become available. We have had a couple of setbacks - a critical security vulnerability in the previous release and then a required change over servers. These have presented us with other tasks to perform, rather than concentrating on preparing the next release. We are very close to releasing a "pre-release" version. Today, we have been validating the HTML markup of the component and checking security. We don’t want to check you waiting forever, and so there are some features that will be withheld from this version and hopefully developed in the next. These include, GroupJive integration, subcategories and some new import features. |

We are moving to new server |

Highwood Design is currently in the progress of moving to a new server. This was necessary due to the increase in traffic and required resources. We have already moved some of our portfolio over to the new server and expect to move this domain over in the next two weeks. The timescale of this move depends on our release of hwdVideoShare-1.1.4, which is currently our main priority. We are in the process of setting up the server with MENCODER and FFMPEG and will launch a new website which will act as the demonstration for hwdVideoShare in the future.

S@BUN has discovered a vulnerability in the hwdVideoShare component for Joomla, which can be exploited by malicious parties to conduct SQL injection attacks. This threat affects the current version hwdVideoShare-1.1.3 RC3. Highwood Design has released a security patch to fix this vulnerability. We highly recommend you follow the procudure below to remove this security threat from your system. - Download the security patch zip file here.
- Unzip the contained file (hwdvideoshare.php) to your local computer.
- Upload the file into the hwdvideoshare component directory to replace the file that currently exists.

Dropping our commenting system |

We have taken the decision to completely stop development of our own commenting system and drop it from the next release. This decision was taken due to the wide selection of excellent open source commenting systems that are widely used in the Joomla Community (We might as well grow together). The next release will include a choice of third party commenting integrations, with more planned for future releases. It is expected that the default integration will be with JComments. |

Despite still having much to do on the next version before any kind of release we have launched a sneak preview of how it will look in Joomla 1.5. You can access this preview by clicking on the Preview J1.5 link on the main menu above. There has been a lot of interest in the next release which is expected to push hwdVideoShare forward significantly. The version will have a new AJAX suite of tools for user interaction during video playback, 2 new upload methods and 4 new flv video players to choose from. In addition to these new features we are trying to incorporate as many bug fixes and feature requests as possible. It has been a mammoth task and we have been working very hard but are happy with the progress. Users should note there are many issues we are aware of in this preview. We welcome your feedback, but don't tear it to pieces just yet! Wait until you get your hands on the testing version before you do that ;-) |
